Our stone fruit grower is Dave Griffin of Griffin Gardens near Cold Spring, MN, who provides us with several varieties of cherries, peaches and apricots. In one of our top sellers, we use a mix of Evan and North Star cherries. Evan cherries are your standard Midwest tart variety and North Star cherries are dark burgundy in color with Bordeaux-like flavor. If you have not tried our variety of cherry ice creams (Brandy Soaked Cherries with Handmade Brownies; Cherry Chocolate), please do on your next visit –- you will not be disappointed.
Peaches and apricots are picky trees here in the Midwest. There are some seasons when Dave’s trees are not producing because of a dry spring, wet fall, etc. When this happens we do not purchase peaches and apricots from non-local fruit purveyors, we just anticipate them even more the next year!
